
Mikel signed for in the summer of 2006 after a protracted contract saga that involved Manchester United.
The 28-year-old has become a vital part of the Chelsea squad since Guus Hiddink took charge of the team and scored in their 1-2 loss away at Paris Saint-Germain in the second round of the Champions League.

“It feels great to be back in the team; sometimes it is disappointing not to be part of the team, not to play but I’ve always been professional,” the Super Eagles midfielder told Chelsea TV.
“I
never speak out, I never get upset, I carry on doing my job, coming to
training every day to train with the guys who are playing.
“This
is football. In one second it changes. I’ve always believed in myself
and kept doing what I was doing and Guus came in and has given me the
opportunity, and hopefully that will continue.
“It is my 10th season at the club since 2006. Maybe I’ll get a testimonial soon.”
