Dennis Giggs, the grandfather of Manchester United assistant manager Ryan, has died.
Louis van Gaal’s No 2 was not present for the win over Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night because of a family illness.
It since emerged that his grandfather has passed away after a United supporters’ club Dennis forged a close bond with posted their condolences at the news online

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Giggs; a true gentleman who was a great friend to all who knew him at the branch,’ it read."

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. RIP Dennis.’
He would often take trips with Cardiff and Vale Reds, reflected by the string of heartfelt messages on their Facebook page.
Giggs was given leave by United this week to tend to his grandfather, in his late 70s, along with the rest of the family.
The pair shared a strong relationship, with Ryan’s decision to play for Wales internationally down to Dennis’ side of the family.
His grandfather spoke glowingly of Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2014 and thanked the former manager for the career Giggs carved at United

'Ryan realised there was no messing about with Mr Ferguson. He respected him,’ Dennis said.
'He was hard on him, Mr Ferguson, over the years but for his own good. He didn't want him to go the way other people have gone.
'I saw him at United and thanked him for what he's done for Ryan and he said "no, what he's done for me". That was good from somebody like that.'
