Obiano appoints elected LG bosses as transition chairmen

Casmir Obiegbolu

AWKA—Anambra state House of Assembly has approved the appointment of 19 out of 21 elected council chairmen and 326 councillors as transition committee members to pilot the affairs of the council areas for three months.

This is coming on the heels of condemnations by political parties and stakeholders in the state.

Two chairmen who were tentatively dropped without reason included Chief Emeka Ojukwu jnr, for Nnewi North and Awugosi Chigozie for Ihiala Local Government areas.

The tenure of the elected chairmen expired on January 11, 2016 and the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano  was expected to conduct local government polls to usher in new council chairmen.

A source close to the governor’s office told casmirobiegbolublog that the Obiano government had to go back to the old order of using transition caretaker committees like his predecessors in order to use council federation allocation for development projects in the state.
