Multiple accidents involving two trucks and a commercial bus occurred at about 8pm on monday at the Mopol 29 Base on the Enugu-Onitsha Express Way Awka close to Dora Akunyili women development center.
The commuter bus with the registration number Anambra KPP 299 XA, described by an eye witness as a Toyota Hiace, was said to be conveying passengers from Enugu into the state and one of the trucks with the registration number Imo WER 306XL, loaded with drugs was moving out of Awka, while the second truck was heading into Awka.
Unconfirmed report said two people lost their lives whereas several others sustained serious injuries.
The victims have been moved to the Chukwu Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka.
Reacting to the incident, the Assistant Corps Commander in charge of Operations, who led the Federal Road Safety Rescue Team, Mr Charles Ezichi, attributed the accident to impatience and reckless driving.
Mr. Ezechi advised the motoring public to always exercise patience, maintain high-level carefulness and avoid over speeding.
At the time of filing in this report, men of the FRSC, the Police and other security operatives were seen clearing the road for free vehicular movement.
